Bamboo Furniture

For that Key West look anywhere, try furnishing your home with bamboo furniture. Bamboo is technically a grass, although it is not the kind of grass you can take care of with a lawn mower! The favorite food of the well-loved panda is also a durable and attractive building material. Bamboo is native of Asia and also grows in the tropics. It has a hollow stem and a very hard texture. Once it is harvested and chemically treated to ward off insects, it can be used to make bamboo furniture.

You can decorate any room of the home with bamboo furniture. It usually a very basic design using several different sizes of bamboo stalks. A bamboo chair can be made from four very large stalks of bamboo for the legs, very thin stalks of bamboo tied together to form the seat, and a few medium-sized bamboo stalks tied together in a square to form the back of the chair. You might even try your hand at making bamboo furniture yourself, but only after practicing first on a few small items; don’t start with making a bamboo four poster bed!

Bamboo furniture has a fresh, fun look and is quite relaxing. It can add a hint of a vacation to your harried life and a bit of tropical heat to your summer. Design your living room with a bamboo coffee table consisting of four bamboo trunks suspending a pane of glass, a bamboo couch and chairs with brightly colored cushions in solid designs or tropical patterns. You can even buy or make bamboo bookshelves and a bamboo entertainment center. Bamboo furniture is much more sturdy than wicker and has a longer life. If you are making your own bamboo furniture, make sure that the stalks are firmly fastened together to avoid accidents. If you are buying bamboo furniture, there are many warehouses of imported furniture that have a surplus of bamboo items. Be sure and inspect your bamboo furniture for defects before purchasing your pieces.
