Discount Furniture

You don't need to go dumpster diving to avoid spending a lot of money on furniture; there are many ways to get discount furniture, either online or at your local mall.

In out of the way places, it is usually easy to find discount furniture at factory outlet stores or liquidations stores. The easiest discount furniture to find used is office furniture, since offices sell their furniture when they go out of business, and baby furniture, since children grow out of their nursery items. You can find good quality discount furniture if you buy a less popular brand; not all fine furniture comes with a fancy name attached to it.

Sometimes you can find discount furniture combinations with one piece of furniture missing (i.e only three chairs for a four chair dining room set). You can solve this problem by buying the missing piece at an unfinished furniture store and finish it in a color that matches the other items. This is usually the best way to deal with the discount furniture treasures you find at flea markets; if it doesn't mach your other pieces, you can re-finish it.

Often your local paper will give you leads on discount furniture from people who are moving and don't want to take their sofa with them. Many minor defects in your furniture can be fixed with a little ingenuity. Then again, if you need to hire someone to re-upholster an chair you bought at a discount furniture store, it might not be worth the money to fix it.

If you are selling discount furniture, you might consider a home auction as an attractive alternative to a yard sale. You might fetch a larger price offer if those who attend know the true value of what is being sold, and it is a good idea if you have high quality discount furniture to sell.
