Log Cabin Furniture

So you have the home you dreamed about since you got your first set of Lincoln logs as a kid; you finally have your very own cabin in the woods. But wait, how will you furnish it. Will art deco do the trick? Or gilded and elaborately carved baroque furniture? How about that Victorian look? Or how about none of the above?

Log cabins need appropriate log cabin furniture to make the whole decorative effect consistent. These can be simple, good quality pieces reminiscent of the pioneer days. You may want to put together your own hickory chair by whittling pegs and weaving a seat out of fiber. Or your log cabin furniture can consist of hand made shaker or Amish creations which fit the atmosphere of the log cabin with rustic yet tasteful simplicity.

What better way to match your log cabin than log cabin furniture made out of logs? This novelty furniture can be found in specialty stores and through the internet. The concept is similar to that of bamboo furniture except actual logs are used. Your log cabin furniture can be made by tying logs together with tough fibers. A log rocking chair can consist of arms made of two logs, a back with made of vertically arranged logs, the frames of the seat made with logs and woven fibers. You might want to put cushions on your log cabin furniture for extra padding and comfort.

Twig furniture is also a good choice for log cabin furniture and follows the same principles of construction as log furniture (i.e. twigs are fastened with fibers and pegs). Twig and log furniture is very sensitive to environmental conditions such as extreme heat or moisture. Make sure that you coat your log cabin furniture with a good quality weatherproof finish. Although hickory is the strongest of all redwoods, it is vulnerable to humidity is also in need of a good finish. The advantage of most log cabin furniture is that it is easy to find in good quality furniture stores, and log and twig furniture pieces are not too difficult to make yourself.
