Tropical Furniture

Do you have the winter blues? Are you desperately in need of a vacation, but can’t take time off work? Instead of spending the money on flying away to a tropical island, why not bring the tropics to your home all year round. Tropical furniture comes in a variety of materials and designs and is appropriate for any room in the house.

Among the most popular materials for tropical furniture is bamboo which can be constructed into furniture by tying bamboo logs of various sizes tightly with fibers to form tables, chairs, and even four poster beds. Bamboo is actually a grass which is native of Asia and has a hollow interior. It is a sturdy plant and, once it is harvested and fumigated so that it is free from bugs, it is ready to be used to make tropical furniture. Bamboo furniture, like most tropical furniture, requires cushions for comfortable sitting or reclining, so invest in cushions with bold tropical designs.

Wicker is another material that is often used in tropical furniture. Try to buy the best quality and smoothest wicker you can, because less expensive varieties tend to fray. A classic piece of tropical furniture is a wicker chair with a curved back, an ornate curved top with an elaborately woven base and a colorful seat cushion. A living room set of wicker tropical furniture includes a coffee table with a wicker base and a glass top, a wicker couch with fine linen cushion and matching side chairs.

Tropical furniture does not always have to be casual. There are many hardwoods in the tropics such as cherry, mahogany and more exotic varieties, such as purpleheart and cocobolo. Many of the woods for tropical furniture come from Costa Rica and are of the highest quality. These hardwoods can give your tropical furniture a touch of elegance.
